Veronica Tussey-Taylor Obituary, Death – 59-Year-Old Brazos County Woman Fatally Shot
Veronica Tussey-Taylor, 59, has died after being found fatally shot at a residence in the 6400 block of Trace Bend in Brazos County, Texas. Authorities later identified 54-year-old John Goodwin as the suspect in her death, with investigators reporting that he died by suicide as the case unfolded.
The incident began Wednesday night when Brazos County deputies were sent to the Trace Bend residence following a welfare concern. When deputies arrived, they discovered Tussey-Taylor deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
Tussey-Taylor was identified as a Brazos County resident. Her sudden death has left family members, friends and others who knew her grieving as investigators continue working to determine what led to the shooting.
Investigation Leads to John Goodwin
During the initial investigation, deputies discovered that Tussey-Taylor’s vehicle was missing from the residence. Investigators subsequently developed Goodwin as a suspect and began tracking the vehicle after determining that it had traveled out of Brazos County toward the Houston area.
Authorities used automated license plate reader technology to follow the vehicle and eventually received information indicating that it may have been at a property in northern Harris County.
A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter was brought in to assist with locating the vehicle. At the same time, Brazos County investigators coordinated with authorities in Harris County as efforts to locate the suspect continued.
Brazos County deputies traveled to the area in an unmarked vehicle to conduct surveillance while Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies prepared to respond to the property.
John Goodwin Dies During Investigation
Before law enforcement entered the property, investigators said Goodwin died by suicide using a firearm. Deputies later located him and confirmed that he was deceased.
Goodwin, 54, was a College Station resident and was identified by authorities as the suspect in Tussey-Taylor’s death.
Officials said Tussey-Taylor and Goodwin knew one another, although authorities have not released additional information about the nature of their relationship or what may have happened before the shooting.
The investigation remains active, with multiple law enforcement agencies involved in examining the circumstances surrounding both deaths.
