Pearl City Fire Today – ABC Junkyard Blaze Sends Heavy Smoke Across Oʻahu
A fire at the ABC Junkyard in Waiawa sent thick smoke across Pearl City and nearby Oʻahu communities on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
Honolulu firefighters responded shortly before 3 p.m. to the property along the 800 block of Lehua Avenue after a fire call was received. The incident was quickly upgraded to a building-fire response, bringing additional firefighting resources to the scene.
Firefighters reported that a large pile of miscellaneous recyclable material was burning. Nearby residents also reported hearing explosions as crews arrived.
Heavy Smoke Over Pearl City
Winds pushed thick black smoke over the H-1 Freeway and into Pearl City, with residents in surrounding areas reporting strong smoke odors and reduced visibility. Community reports also indicated that smoke could be noticed in areas farther from the immediate fire scene.
The Hawaiʻi Department of Health issued a smoke advisory for portions of Pearl City. Officials advised people in affected areas, particularly children, older adults and people with respiratory or heart conditions, to limit outdoor activity and remain indoors with windows and doors closed while smoke conditions persisted.
Drivers traveling through the area were also urged to use caution because smoke could affect visibility and emergency vehicles were operating around the incident.
Fire Contained, Crews Continue Overhaul
The Honolulu Fire Department said 11 fire companies, including Honolulu and federal firefighting agencies, responded to the blaze.
The fire was contained shortly before 5 p.m., although firefighters continued overhaul operations to search for hidden fire and prevent the blaze from rekindling. No injuries had been reported in the latest available update.
The junkyard has previously faced code-related concerns and fire incidents. In July 2026, the Hawaiʻi Department of Health issued a Notice of Violation and Order involving ABC Towing & Parts and the property owner over the storage and accumulation of solid waste at the Lehua Avenue site.
The cause of Wednesday’s fire remains under investigation.
